Eighth Reel: Geez, Self!
May. 22nd, 2011 04:50 pm"Almira Gulch, just because you own half the county doesn't mean that you have the power to run the rest of us. For twenty-three years, I've been dying to tell you what I thought of you! And now... well, being a Christian woman, I can't say it!"
- Auntie Em, The Wizard of Oz (1939)
Damn you, Hays Code! I wanted to know what Auntie Em would've said if you didn't exist in 1939!
Well don't I look like an idiot and a jerk. I get out of university, say I'm going to try and keep consistent and more frequent with my entries and what do I do? Not improve on my posts... whatsoever. One can argue that I'm even getting worse. Go figure that I'd have a WORSE job doing this when I have all the free time! I end up getting this sort of mindset of "Okay, I have all this stuff I should do this summer, okay let's get crackin'! Oh look, I have all my friend's deviations I have to look at and potentially comment on and/or favourite. But I have this to do! Oh look, I haven't watched and commented on CamCazzy's videos in months. But I have this to do! Oh look, I haven't posted an entry in a week. BUT I HAVE THIS TO DO DAMMIT!
Well I'm here now. That's saying something. And with my own camcorder! FINALLY! With Sony Vegas too, which provokes me to get around to cleaning out my desktop so I can restore it and install the thing (it might also mean some higher-quality vids, though Movie Maker will always hold a special place in my heart and I'll continue to use it when I don't need anything more advanced). It's like this new presence in my room, silently waiting for me to take it out of the box and use it... which I can't do until I have a memory card. But that will be soon! For those curious, it's a Canon EOS 60D with attached 18-200mm lens... expensive, but damn was it worth it! The heaviest part is the lens (by far), and the body of the camera is very comfortable to hold and has a flip screen that I like... a lot! The lens also calls for some phallic symbol jokes that our friend Rear Window inspires:

Ah, filmmaking, such a masculine job. Stereotypically masculine anyway... since when can't women be gods, too? (It's probably scaringly obvious now why I want this career in the first place XP)
Anyway, I need a case for the thing still, but will still need to go window-shopping for that to make sure an ideal one is cheap enough... thank god I'm starting work this week and can make up for the hundreds of dollars I'm spending right now!
Wait, you didn't hear? My apologies - I'M AN EMPLOYED WOMAN!
Mind you, it's dishwashing, but I just need money for loans and expensive camera equipment anyway (once I have enough in wages, I'll get myself a lightweight tripod too)... and it's a job with pleasant staff, a convenient location, and a position that I can easily ask my sister for advice when I need to! That's a lot more than I can say for the past three years, where I had, you know, NO job! HUGE step there!
So needless to say I'm quite content at the moment. For the most part. I'm also obsessed with Pokémon - again. Good or bad timing? XD
Guess it's time to finish some of those desktop vids before the computer's restored... Movie Maker projects aren't movable, after all!
(I really will try to post these on a more regular basis. I'll get somebody to remind me if it's been a while.)
